Prepare for impending disasters says inter-governmental panel

The Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has issued a dire warning to the world after a meeting of climatologists in Kampala, Uganda. Get ready for extreme weather as a result of global warming.

Heat waves, floods, droughts, and storms will intensify with the warming of the planet and most countries, and people, in the world aren’t prepared.

The CDC, FEMA, and other government agencies have been conducting  media campaigns to recommend that every American household has an emergency disaster plan and supplies. Every family should have emergency essentials packed in case they have to leave home fast in an emergency situation. Things to consider are food supplies, water, warmth, health, and safety.

Are you prepared for extreme weather and natural disasters? Are your neighbors? Friends? Family?

Some may scoff, but let them. They won’t scoff when they find themselves in an emergency, whether they prepared for one or not.

EPA to Investigate How Fracking Impacts Drinking Water

It’s about time the EPA looks into how natural gas fracking is affecting the drinking water of people living near the over 10,000 natural gas drilling sites in the U.S.

The EPA announced last week that they will study the impact of using massive quantities of water on the local environment, contaminant spills at drilling sites, and contamination of drinking water from the fracking process.

Initial results will be available in 2012, but the study will not be complete until 2014.

In the meantime, shouldn’t fracking be put on hold? I think so.

If you are worried about your drinking water being contaminated, you should get your tap water tested at a lab. The money you spend will be worth it so you know if your water is safe. You can contact your local municipality to get the results of their most recent tests, but understand that they don’t test for all contaminants.

There’s a lot of discontent brewing around the world and many are still trying to figure out if the Occupy Wall St. movement is something they can stand behind. Some are afraid to join the protests in fear of aligning themselves with a progressive movement rooted in leftist ideology. But the broad message that protesters around the world are sending is something almost all of us can agree on. Our financial system has evolved into a behemoth giant that needs to be slayed. Bankers and investors have played the system like it was a game of roulette and our lawmakers stood by and did nothing. And when the gamble failed, they bailed them out.

Taxpayers are fed up.

Jobs are on everyones’ mind these days and massive unemployment has led many entrepreneurs to start small businesses. Supporting this growing segment of the population is a great way to boost the economy of the working class and help to sustain sorely needed jobs.
